Washington, DC, May 29, 2020 – The League of Railway Women (LRW) has opened the call to apply for the 2020 LRW scholarship program.

This year, LRW will have two scholarships available, the Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship and the Future of Railroading Scholarship. The deadline is July 10, 2020. The LRW Scholarship is largely funded by the support and dedication of its corporate partners

The Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000 to a woman pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree and seeking to further her career in the rail industry. This scholarship honors the memory of former LRW President Connie Sumara, an LRW founder and longest-serving president.

New this year, the Future of Railroading Scholarship awards $1,000 to a student pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree with an interest in supporting the rail industry.

“Supporting our industry colleagues with their educational pursuits is paramount to the League of Railway Women,” said LRW Scholarship Chair Crystal Gitchell. “We also hope to inspire future railroaders to consider careers in our industry with the introduction of our newest scholarship.”
