2015 Annual Conference
In conjunction with Railway Interchange 2015, October 4-6, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Thanks to everyone who attended the LRIW 2015 Annual Conference held in Minneapolis, Minnesota in conjunction with Railway Interchange 2015. Our conference kicked off Monday, October 5, with the Railway Interchange General Opening Session featuring keynote speaker Retired US Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill and the LRIW Outstanding Woman of the Year Award presentation. We were pleased to announce our winner GO Transit’s Mary Proc to a crowd full of railroaders. View Mary’s acceptance speech here.
Then, LRIW hosted a full day of technical and educational sessions including a panel bringing together women in rail. Our sessions featured notable speakers from CN, Operation Lifesaver, Transportation Technology Center, and the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA). LRIW member Carol Steckbeck was named the LRIW Outstanding Member of the Year.
On Tuesday, LRIW hosted their annual membership meeting where a new executive committee named and the membership approved a new board structure (learn more). Afterwards, members hopped on a bus to tour the St. Paul Light Rail Operations & Maintenance Facility. Metro Transit is the transportation resource for the Twin Cities, offering an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains. The tour included the maintenance and storage garage facilities located at the end of the newly in-serviced Metro Transit Green Line.
